1963 Stamps and First Day Covers commemorating President Manuel Roxas, the third and last President of the Commonwealth and the first of the Republic of Philippines. He was born on January 1, 1892 in Capiz which is now Roxas City. During World War II – Japanese Invasion in the Philippines, He secretly work on Philippine Army as Liaison Officer between US and Philippine Guerrilla Movements.President Manuel Roxas served as the President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines in a brief period, from his subsequent election on May 28, 1946 to July 4, 1946, the scheduled date of the proclamation of Philippine Independence. Unfortunately, President Manuel Roxas did not finish his term that was expected to end by 1950 because he died of myocardial infarction.
The stamps are issued by immortalizing his words of wisdom to all Filipinos, and first of the Philippine Presidential Gems Stamps Series.
