Under: Coin
During my college days I've been fascinated to collect coins. this is after I've heard the news that all old Philippine coins will be replace by a new design or series. However, some bad events happen and lost all my stuff. I just started back again nowadays to continue my long old hobby.Old coins are much more interesting and valuable than newer coins for most collectors grading. But it depends on metal contain of course. Most old coins are made of valuable materials such as silver & gold, this made them worth more than their face value. The government has made laws that their old minted coins must be melt back to make newer coins and many ordinary people also minted coins with valuable content for their jewelries. This is one fact that old coins are getting harder to find and made them considered collectible.Coins become more valuable as they get older, this all related to the law of supply and demand. As coin get older, the rarer they become and getting less being found which also made additional value of the coin. But in spite to all of this, coin collectors do not only enjoys through collecting old coins based on they metal content values but also of their beauty, rarity & history as mentioned.
Few months ago, I meet people who have kept their coins for a long period of time as they said. I know the fact that the coins they've treasured is not that highly valuable at all, but surprisingly they refused my cash offer due to emotional tied-up of the items, they says that the coins was inherited from their ancestors and linked long back ago to their family. On that moment, I know that coin has history of its own. And in back of my mind, if this people might get rich & famous… that coins will become
priceless. Because who knows, that coins will be once held by some celebrated individual.Personally, I didn’t value much about the history of the item. I look more on metal content, for me… that's reality. And I considered them an investment, year minted is only a secondary.
